The state of affairs surrounding the Frenchman taking over Los Blancos were so inimitable compared to what is currently happening at Manchester United.
It will not be totally wrong to describe the current Manchester United predicament as Mourinho’s own making but that would be to ignore the aberration elsewhere. Mourinho aggravates the problem in certain ways such as his constant woes with Paul Pogba or his defensive tactics. His football has never been entertaining. The game in a sense has passed by as other coaches now play attacking football while Jose still lies on improvisation. But there is a jumble quality to the players in the dressing room and that might not be Mourinho’s fault anyway.
United are about six £100m rated players from where they should be. This fact alone is one reason among many why Zidane should avoid United. He would be taking on all the chaos of the post-Ferguson era.
Madrid was Zidane’s home. His boys were playing for the youth team. There was already an ineffaceable bond between Zidane and the club before he took over. And when he took the job he met Cristiano Ronaldo not Romelu Lukaku, Gareth Bale not Marcus Rashford, Toni Kroos not Marouane Fellaini, Luka Modric not Jesse Lingard and Sergio Ramos not Chris Smalling.
Although, there were delicate tactical tweaks made by him and most remarkably of all a desire to work with the players already in the club. Zizou seldom saw the market as a resolution to the team’s woes. He knew it was his work to make them achieve. That cannot be done with this United squad. And Besides, Zidane’s natural territory was the champions league. They were 17 points behind Barcelona in La Liga last season. They failed to win 16 league games in total. He could not maintain stability throughout the plod of a 38-game season.
United are not the kind of club Zidane can turn into Champions League winners. They need someone for a restructure. He is not that kind of manager. Zidane lived and breathed real Madrid. What is there for him at United? Insistent pressure, a fan base absolutely unfulfilled with how the club is run and a first team squad of uneven quality.
I don’t think he can succeed at Old Trafford.
Tottenham 2-4 Barcelona
Messi double stuns Tottenham as Barcelona lead Group B. Ivan Rakitic netted a breathtaking volley and Leo Messi scored twice to instigate Barcelona to a 4-2 win.
It was a spectacular performance from Barcelona attackers but poor from the defense and the manager. Gerard Pique is not at his best and I am afraid this may cost Barcelona a whole lot of problems. His mistake led to Barcelona’s loss against Leganes and it will not be surprising to see more mistakes in the future. Ernesto Valverde is another Barcelona case that may see the Catalan giants crash out again in another quarter finals. His choice of the starting eleven was fantastic but his failure to substitute early enough were one of the reasons for Barcelona’s concession of two goals. The game needed change after the hour mark. Players like Arthur who had a wonderful game were getting tired and that gave tottenham the chance of penetrating which they took hold of. Barcelona may be UCL favorites but only because of Leo.
Napoli 1:0 Liverpool
Lorenzo Insigne struck in the 90th minute as Napoli claimed a deserved 1-0 win over Liverpool to leave Champions league Group c wide open. Napoli got a really deserved win as the Reds struggled in the match. Liverpool’s blunt attack was kept quiet and Napoli finally got their deserved goal at the end. I expected Jurgen klopp to lighten up the attack by bringing in Shaqiri and sturridge early enough but he didn’t. Liverpool has a very important game vs. Manchester city during the weekend. Introducing Shaqiri and Sturridge into the game would have not only lightened up the game but also could have rested their key players. This was the first time since 2012 that Liverpool failed to have a single shot on target, as David Ospina was not troubled.
THINGS YOU MISSED FROM WEDNESDAY’S CL
Neymar moves alongside Kaka as the Brazilian with the most goals in UCL as his hat-trick in PSG’s 6-1 win over Red Star Belgrade saw him get 30 champions league goals. He also became the first player to net twice from a direct free-kick in a CL game since CR7 in 2009.
Messi has now scored more goals and provided more assists against English clubs in the champions league than clubs from any other nation. He has now scored 21 and assisted 6.
Erik Lamela’s goal marked the 8000th goal in champions league history.
MANCHESTER UNITED 1:1 WATFORD
Joao Moutinho’s second-half strike cancelled out Fred’s opener, with both players scoring their first goals for their respective clubs. The red devils were held 1-1 draw by a promoted side yesterday. In front of former Sir Alex Fergurson, who was back at Old Trafford for the first time since suffering a brain haemorrhage in May, United produced an unsatisfactory performance and wolves left with a deserved point. Clear cut chances were hard to come by for united thereafter.
I’ll say José has killed all the creativity in his attackers due to his defensive tactics. On my own opinion, the only players that can be developed under José are the defensive midfielders and defenders. It’ll interest you to know that Nuno Espirito Santo (Wolves manager) was Porto’s reserve goal keeper when Jose led Porto to UCL victory in 2004 and his wolves’ side is more organized than Jose’s side. It’s pathetic how José has refused to evolve from 2004.
CARDIFF 0-5 MAN CITY
Citizens come back to winning ways as Mahrez scores 1st brace for his club. Sergio Aguero netted on his 300th appearance for Manchester City as Pep Guardiola’s side bounced back from their CL frustration with a booming 5-0 win at Cardiff city.
LIVERPOOL 3-0 SOUTHAMPTON:
Salah scores among goals as reds continue perfect EPL start. Virgil Van dijk’s injury against former club blemished a 3-0 win for Liverpool at anfield. Liverpool were wasteful after scoring 3 most especially Mo salah. They should be sentient that this Epl season is a very hard-hitting one and can be won with goal difference. Their Rivals, Manchester city were ruthless while scoring. Klopp’s men should Endeavour to cultivate this mind-set. I also think Mo salah needs to improve his game as defenders have also stepped up their game due to his magnificent performance last season.
REAL MADRID 1-0 ESPANYOL
Real Madrid has moved back ahead of Barcelona to go top of la liga Santander as Barcelona face girona later in the day today. The champions league winners bounced back from their 1-1 draw at Athletic Bilbao last week. Thanks to Marco Asensio’s first half strike. I think Marco Asensio is going to be the next Ronaldo at real. It’ll interest you to know the latter was bought for just 3.9 million Euros November 2014 and will currently not be sold for anything less than 70 million Euros. What a buy
VALENCIA 2-0 JUVENTUS
Ronaldo sees 1st UCL red as Pjanic settles the game with 2 penalties. It was a very impressive one from the old ladies for still winning the clash after the sending off of their star which was too harsh on my own opinion. Ronaldo red a reminder juve must accept his petulant personality. A very disappointing game for valencia.
REAL MADRID 3-0 ROMA
Isco, Bale on target as Mariano Diaz scores an absolute GOLAZO on his debut.I am very envious of this real madrid team. I am beginning to perceive real madrid as a stronger team without cr7. I totally agree with Gareth Bale who said Real madrid now play as a team as they don’t have a particular star. Lastly, I will like to appreciate Luka modric for his performance today. His assist to Gareth Bale was an astonishing one.Absolutely world class from the Ballon d’or contender.
YOUNG BOYS 0-3 MANCHESTER UNITED
Anthony Martial added to Paul Pogba’s brace as Manchester united comfortably brushed aside Young boys away from home. I will say Jose’s Manchester united is just aimed at getting result irrespective of how they play. On my own opinion, Manchester united’s game play was poor. No excitement. They can’t even keep the ball. That’s disappointing for a three champions league holder.
MANCHESTER CITY 1-2 LYON
It’s a very poor result for Manchester city to lose their opening champions league game at home.Pep Guardiola leaves an unfillable void on the touchline.Pep Guardiola was suspended for the opening champions league game.It seems his voice is enough to carry Manchester city through. I see Manchester city bouncing back from this loss.
STUNNING LATE EQUALISER ENSURES HARD- FOUGHT DRAW FOR SHAKHTAR AS THEY SECURED A 2-2 DRAW AGAINST HOFFEINHEIM
AJAX 3-0 AEK ETHENS
Tagaliafico scores a double and van de beek scores one. It is so unfortunate Argentina had a player like Tagaliafico and couldn’t still impress in the world cup. POOR SAMPAOLI
NEWS OF THE DAY; Ramos overtakes Scholes to become UCL’s most booked player with 37 yellow cards ahead of scholes’s 36
BARCELONA VS PSV.
Every one knows PSV are no match for Barcelona. Barcelona used their strongest side that has started every game apart from the real sociedad game where they eventually entered in the 2nd half. Barcelona had one of the best transfer window so i see no reason why there shouldnt be squad rotation. I am not against Valverde starting with his strongest side but he should make substitutions at least by the 65th minute. Valverde need to realize that fatigue was Barcelona’s major problem last season and if he continues like this. Barcelona’ll end up in the quarter finals as usual.
LIVERPOOL VS PSG
Classic game at anfield today. I am beginning to feel PSG are only good on paper. Despite the two goals they scored, Thomas Tuchel’s side were poor. Most especially, The Midfield. I can say, the impact of veratti’s absence was felt.
Liverpool were simply phenomenal. This is the quality i was talking about in Ernersto valverde. Jurgen klopp started with a rotated team though not much. Nevertheless, this maintains the freshness of the team. To be frank, It was his rotation that lead to the winning goal as Firmino came into the game fresh and raring to go.I’ ll say Klopp is a crazy tactician.
INTER VS TOTTENHAM
Inter were 1-0 down at san siro, but Mauro Icardi’s stunning volley and a Matias Vecino’s header turned it around in seven minutes to beat tottenham hotspur and seal first champions league win after six years.
NEWS OF THE DAY: MESSI OVERTAKES RONALDO AS KING OF THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE HAT-TRICK:
The match ball from Barcelona’s 4-0 victory over psv eindhoven is going home with Leo Messi, who scored his Eighth cl hat-trick aheadof cr7;s seven.
